The Priorat region is located in Catalonia, in the southern part of Cataloia, in the province of Tarragona. From Barcelona it takes approx. 2 hours by car to get to this wonderful wine district. Priorat is a small, and best known as a red wine producing region located just south of Barcelona, Spain. Those of you who are obsessed with bold red wines are easily attracted to places like Priorat: a tiny little mountain region, rugged and dry, quite unsuitable for anyone other than crops … except grapes and olives. Wines from the Priotat region are produced from traditional grape varieties, but also with others that have been introduced in recent years. Here you will find mainly young wines with excellent bouquet. The whites are generally very fruity and crisp. The reds are full-bodied, aromatic, with intense color.
WINE VILLAGES
Gratallops and Siurana and Falset are considered the most important cities on this wine route. There are some daily train departures that run between this wine producing region and Barcelona and Tarragona. For centuries, wine has characterized the history and economy of this region of Catalonia. Among the vineyards and wineries you will find villages, farms and neighborhoods of medieval origin. By bike or ebike you ride through the heart of the Priorat region the most amazing way to get to know the area, see the vineyards and enjoy the view. It is an approx. two hour bike ride through the vineyards in Priorat, led by a local well-known guide from the area, who tells about the history of the villages and its inhabitants, the new wave of Priorat wine introduced 20 years ago, the difference between old and new vines, chemical or organic cultivation. you will visit a local bodega and taste 3 wines. Lunch in a local plaza for typical tapas.
